Going to Rome without enjoying the local cuisine would be like leaving without having seen the Colosseum: nonsense. Italian food - and Roman food - is much more than ice cream and pizza and in Rome you will notice. Speaking of account ... is it possible to eat low cost in the Italian capital? Of course, here we leave you 9 Restaurants where to eat in Rome well and cheaply:

If you want more information, visit our ROME TRAVEL GUIDE

One of the typical dishes of Rome is pasta cacio e pepe (with cheese and pepper) which is very good! And in Tonnarello they prepare one of the best (in addition to many other types of pasta). The cacio e pepe costs € 8.5 and the portion is huge. Amatriciana pasta (€ 8.5) is another very good option, we leave it there 😉

  • Where: Via della Paglia 1
  • Price: € 10-15
  • Web: //tonnarello.it/

The Mercato Centrale is one of our favorite dining options in Rome (we discovered it on our last visit). In this article we tell you more about the Mercato Centrale Roma but we already anticipate you that it is a place where you can find what you want most: there are from pizza to sushi, from desserts to typical Roman dishes, from pasta to fried dishes… come on, It is a pasote and everyone agrees!

  • Where: Via Giovanni Giolitti, 36
  • Price: € 7-15
  • Web: //www.mercatocentrale.it/roma/

If, like us, you are an absolute fan of meatballs, you will love the concept of this restaurant: they propose a few types and styles of meatballs to take in a take away plan and to be able to inflate their teeth while walking through the streets of the Italian capital. There are meat with sauce, vegan with vegetables and fruit, typical Roman, ethnic ... come on, for all tastes.

You can also eat at the place, but the truth is that it is tiny and we see better the take away option.

  • Where:Via F. Grimaldi, 48/50
  • Price: 3 meatballs € 4.5; 8 meatballs € 9; 15 meatballs € 16
  • Web: //www.allbibox.com/

| PINSERE

This oval focaccia does not have the same cooking procedure, being more bread than pizza. The funny thing is that the pinsa arrives directly from ancient Rome (and goes directly to the holsters) and for us it is, without a doubt, one of the best things that eat in Rome! There are many types of pinsa, from the classic white or tomato with mozzarella, to the most original such as mortadella, ricotta and pistachios or pears, gorgonzola, nuts and honey. Delicious!

  • Where: Via Flavia, 98
  • Price: € 2-5.5
  • Web: //www.pinsereroma.com/

| VEGUSTA

In this place you can taste hamburgers and vegan sandwiches, very rich! There are also tempuras for € 3.5 and salads for € 4. The place offers free water 🙂

  • Where: Via delle palme, 31
  • Price: 6-8 €
  • Web: //www.vegusta.it/menu.html

| PIZZERIA DA BAFFETTO

Considered by many to be the best pizza in Rome, it is well worth approaching to see how much truth there is in this statement. The negative point is that the staff is not too friendly ... but hey, if you want to eat in Rome for cheap and want pizza, Da Baffetto is a great place.

  • Where: 114, Via del governo vecchio
  • Price: € 6-12
  • Web: //www.pizzeriabaffetto.it/

| OSTERIA DEGLI UBERTINI

Another great option to eat well and cheaply in Rome is this inn, a place of those of a lifetime: informal, chaotic and very simple, but you fall in love with the naked eye (and taste and smell). At noon there is a great menu for € 10 that includes first, second, wine, water, bread and coffee ... all quality and 100% Roman!

  • Where: Via Guglielmo Degli Ubertini, 77
  • Price: € 10

We recommend you take a look at this article, where we recommend restaurants to eat in Trastevere, one of our favorite neighborhoods in the city 🙂

Two tips to eat in Rome cheap

1. One way to save money on food is to buy something in the supermarkets or markets of Rome and set up a healthy and fun picnic or, if you stay in an apartment with kitchen you can cook your favorite Italian dishes right there!

2. Another great idea to save is to take advantage of the appetizer which consists of having a drink (usually Spritz Aperol, but it can be everything from Coca-Cola to mojito) that is usually accompanied by some snacks. There are bars that will give you the typical potatoes or olives, but there are others that are wonderful: free buffet of pasta, pizza, rice, panini and much more. It usually costs between € 7-12 and starts around 18.00. Yum yum! These are our favorites:

Every day from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. they make a happy hour where for € 10 / person you are entitled to a drink (wine, spritz, beer ...) and a cheese and charcuterie table that is super good!

  • Where: Via del Pellegrino, 14
  • Web: //www.500foodboutique.it/

A classic of the capital: here cocktail, wine or beer + free buffet of first, second, garnish, pizzas and sweets for € 11. The following drinks cost € 6.

  • Where: Viale XXI Aprile 19 (near Piazza Bologna)
  • Web: //www.momartcafe.it/
