Day 1: GIRONA - BRISTOL

Thursday, March 28, 2013

As every morning the alarm sounds and as every time a trip or a getaway begins, our travel diary also begins.
Today is Easter Thursday, which means that, as we did last year escaping to Tallinn and Helsinki, we have to escape somewhere, this time not too far away to spend these four days of partying.
In a few hours we will fulfill another of our traveling dreams, finally knowing Stonehenge, a destination that we have on our list for years. Having 4 days, we will add another 3 destinations that also make us especially excited: Bristol board, Bath Y Salisbury.

We leave work at 2 in the afternoon and after Roger comes looking for me, we go straight to Girona airport from where we will fly to Bristol board, which will be our base of operations these days.
We arrived at the airport in less than half an hour, we parked the car and passed the controls fast enough to give us time to have coffee and rest for a while until they announce the boarding gate and we are going to make the “famous queue Ryanair "how little we like it, but what we do to avoid having to sit apart or have no room for luggage.

At this point we have to say that we usually use this airline, although it is not always our taste or we share its forms.
While it is true that we cannot say that they deceive anyone, everything is written, either in the large print or in the small print, but after all they explain it.
We, because of its proximity to the place where we live, the Girona airport, where this company operates, is great for short breaks like this one that we will do these days to English lands.

Waiting for our flight! Trip to Bristol, Bath, Salisbury and Stonehenge

Our flight leaves punctually at 17.40h and after going through a few turbulences that remind us that the desire to travel may more than our suspicion, quite sharpened with age, to fly.
At the moment that the plane exceeds the height of the clouds, we find a totally clean sky that welcomes us for a little less than 2 hours ... which is when we started to land, after seeing a sunset between the clouds.
It's 18.50h o'clock and we're landing at the airport Bristol board.
As we usually do whenever we fly with this company the landings are somewhat abrupt and we have that feeling of insecurity that we had in the takeoff.
We go through the automatic passport controls that, although faster, have to explain the operation for not being too intuitive.
We are at the door after 15 minutes and as soon as we leave we find the A1 bus stop with which go from Bristol airport to Temple Meads train station, it becomes an easy task.

Recommended travel cards

Remember that in order not to pay commissions and always have the current change we recommend you use the N26 card to pay and the Bnext and Revolut cards to get money at the ATMs. They are the ones we use, They are free and will save you a lot.
You can find more information in this article about the best cards to travel without commissions.

We get the tickets on the same bus and they cost us £ 11 per person round trip. If only the one-way ticket is taken, the price is 7 pounds.
We have to get off at the stop of Temple meads and we arrived in just over half an hour.
From here, something lost and after consulting the mobile GPS to locate a little, we go in search of what will be our accommodation these days, the Hilton Garden Inn, a hotel 5 minutes from the train station of Bristol board, Temple meads.
We check-in at the Hilton Gardenn and after resting a few minutes, we leave again, this time in search of an Italian restaurant that we have noted, recommended in the forums. Today we have dinner at Don Giovanni.

Our room at the Hilton Garden Inn after going from Bristol airport to Temple Meads train station

We ordered a plate of pasta and a rissotto, plus a water and a coke for 24.75 pounds and after filling the stomach, we return to our hotel, to rest and tomorrow start with strength which will be a very special day. Tomorrow we will meet Bath!!!
With this thought we fell asleep ...
