Tips for traveling to Casablanca, Meknès and Fez

We leave you one of the first tips to travel to Casablanca, Meknès and Fez. If you arrive in Casablanca late at night, as happened to us, we advise you to hire a transfer service with the hotel. As a rule they do not have much higher prices than airport taxis and you will avoid bargaining at that time of night.

The Moroccan train line is punctual and perfect for transfers between cities. If you have a tour of several hours, for the difference in price, first class is very good to go quiet and rest.

Remember that in order not to pay commissions and always have the current change we recommend you use the N26 card to pay and the Bnext and Revolut cards to get money at the ATMs. They are the ones we use, They are free and will save you a lot.
You can find more information in this article about the best cards to travel without commissions.

Follow the list of the 10 tips to travel to Morocco, cross out many of the 50 things to see and do in Fez, try to complete the 10 essential places to see in Morocco and do some of the best excursions from Fez.

For go from Meknès to Volubilis You have a couple of options:
Take a "private" grand taxi for 350 dirhams that normally includes going to Moulay Idris, a town located next to Volubilis, visiting it for an hour, going to Volubilis, visiting the site for 2 hours and returning to Meknès.
And then we have another way a little more hard but cheaper: take a Grand Taxi (gray cars a little longer than the petit taxi, but they have no identification) in front of L'Institut Français de Meknès in the Vile Nouvelle for 10 dirhams per person, which takes you to Moulay Idris and from there make the change to another Grand Taxi that will take you to Volubilis for 5 more dirhams per person.
Total 60 dirhams versus 350 dirhams of the first option. Quite a difference to consider which option to choose. Although we must bear in mind that in the second option we will have to get with 6 people in the car (a tourism like those here) with what that means.

For go from Fez to the airport We have a couple of options, the first and easiest is to take a grand taxi for 120 dirhams (the petit taxi does not arrive at the airport) and the second is to go to the train station in a petit taxi for about 30 dirhams (if they do not consent put the meter) and then take bus number 16 that for 20 dirhams per person leaves you directly at the airport in about 45 minutes.

If you have enough dirhams think that in the airport you can only change in the area before passing the boarding gates and that inside, in stores, you can only pay with euros, so do not wait to spend them there. The only place they accept dirhams is in the cafeteria at the boarding gates).

We ordered a chicken tagine that is amazing plus one of meat with prunes plus coke, water and coffees for 160 dirhams. Without a doubt the best food we have made on this trip to Casablanca, Meknès and Fez.
