If you are wondering how much does a 2 week trip to Morocco cost, we will try to answer you taking as a reference our trip through the interior of Morocco: from Marrakech to Fez, moving by rental car. Although to calculate the travel budget, you have to take into account the style of each traveler, the type of accommodation, the season, etc. It can be a good starting point. We will detail the necessary budget in different sections: flights, transportation, accommodation, food, excursions and other expenses. In this way you can have an approximate idea of travel budget per person that you will need for your adventure in Morocco.

Flights

There are lots of alternatives at great prices! Thanks mainly to the Ryanair company, you can find direct flights to both Marrakech and Fez (and other Moroccan destinations) from many Spanish cities. It's easy to see them for less than € 50 round trip, especially in mid or low season and with some advance notice. We bought a Madrid - Marrakech for € 29 and a Fez - Venice for € 19 per person, at the end of September and beginning of October.

Car rental

We always recommend doing a search on the websites of car rental comparisons. We use in all Auto Europe trips and it is usually the one that offers the best prices. Calculate some € 15-20 per day in the simplest car, to which you will have to add the insurance and the one way rate of about € 85. We chose a mid-range car (Fiat Manual type), with super cover insurance, and we ended up paying € 325 for 12 days (€ 27 per day). So per person we touch 162,5€.

Here we tell you how to rent a car and how to drive in Morocco.

Gasoline

Gasoline in Morocco is approximately in € 1 per liter. In total we made 2,043 km, for which we need 95 liters of gasoline and paid a total of € 87. The average consumption of our Fiat Type Diesel therefore it was of 4.65 liters every 100 km, and the half price of diesel gasoline € 0.92 / liter. Per person, therefore, we put an expense of 43,5€.

Accommodation

In general, staying in Morocco is cheaper than doing it in any other European destination. Ideally, always stay in riads, the typical Moroccan little hotels with a handful of rooms distributed around an inner courtyard and tastefully decorated. The price for a room in a riad in Morocco is about € 30-50 per night. We use both Airbnb and booking.com and pay a total of € 770 for 18 nights, one average of € 42.78 per night in a double room. But we are sure that this expense item can be reduced somewhat.

If we consider a trip where we would have to stay 12 nights in hotels, the Total price per person would be € 257.

Food

It is the most flexible part of a trip, and where you can save or shoot the budget. The good thing is that in Morocco it is easy to eat for € 2 in local restaurants, buy bread and sweets in small shops, etc… In addition, it is not too expensive to always eat in tourist restaurants or of better quality.

The price for a great main dish (cous cous, tajine, etc.) round the 5-8€. And best of all, the accommodations usually include breakfast (and what a breakfast!), So you save a meal. It is even possible to take advantage of a good breakfast and then eat once outside, pulling nuts, fruit or bread for when you get a little hungry.

Therefore, we can calculate a budget of about € 12 per person and day. As we say, you can shoot above € 20 or reduce something, but we think it is a correct figure. So if it's 12 days (considering that the two days of desert food is included), the Total expenditure on food would be € 144.

Here we leave you the typical dishes of Moroccan cuisine (coming soon).

Desert excursions

It is an expense that, in our view, we cannot save. The experience of sleeping in the Sahara desert is brutal! We did it both in the Erg Chigaga desert (from Mhamid) and in the most popular Erg Chebbi desert (from Merzouga) and both were two memorable nights. The first excursion is somewhat more expensive, as you will need to travel about 60 km by jeep to reach the camps at the foot of the dunes. Erg Chebbi however is next to Merzouga, so getting there is much faster and prices are more affordable.

Calculate a budget of about € 80 for Erg Chigaga and about € 50 for Erg Chebbi, in total € 130 per person.

Miscellaneous expenses

In which we include the entrances to the tourist places, occasional memories and unpredictable expenses In total we calculate some € 50 per person.

Summary

Our calculation gives us a total cost of € 837 per person, to enjoy a 2 week trip through Morocco, one of the most magical countries and where we have been, and a stone's throw away!
