If you plan to visit Segovia in one day, you are in the right place: today we are going to tell you our passage through this beautiful city and believe me, there is much more than its famous aqueduct! In this post we tell you all the things to see and do in Segovia in one day 🙂

After a few days in Sigüenza we wanted to backpacking, so map in hand we chose the next destination of our trip, and as wide is Castile, the finger fell on ... Segovia! On this trip we were accompanied by Rober's parents: Valeriano, who given the name stuck very much with the Roman atmosphere of the aqueduct and Angelines, our private GPS navigator, without which we would still be looking for the detour to reach the destination hehe.

Parked the best car in the world, the Patri's, we went straight to the TILE SQUARE, where the city star is located: the ROMAN AQUEDUCT, one of the best preserved civil engineering works in all of Spain. What a piece of construction! The aqueduct was built from the Sierra de Guadarrama to supply the city with water and is more than 28 meters high.

The more you look at the perfection of the cut of the stones perfectly fitted to each other the more you are amazed, and especially knowing that they did not use any kind of putty to join them. We took a picture under it and a complete book on the stairs to the left of the tourist office, from where the best views are.

In the same square is another of the symbols of the city: the Cándido restaurant, where they say they eat the best suckling pig in all of Segovia. When we went we were about backpacks In total, so we wanted to push the tooth to that specialty but come on, do not do like us and spend the rooms to try a good piglet ... without a doubt one of the best things to do in Segovia (if you are not vegetarian, of course :-p).

Tip: A very good way to get to know Segovia is by taking this tour that will take you to know the historic center and the Alcazar. It lasts 2.5 hours and costs € 14.

The next stage was strolling through the old town, where there are always curious things ...

... and other culturally more interesting ones such as the old Jewish quarter (with its narrow streets, the Main Synagogue, the educational center of the Jewish Quarter, the door of San Andres ...), the Plaza Mayor (where, being Thursday there was a street market), the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption and San Frutos and several interesting monuments such as the Church of San Martín, the House of the Peaks, the courtyard of the House of the River, the Tower of Arías Davila ... and much more!

The Jewish quarter is one of the most interesting areas of Segovia, if you want to go deeper you can sign up for this tour. It lasts 1.5 hours and costs € 9.

But we had a great gem to discover: the Alcazar. How beautiful it is * _ * They say that Walt Disney was inspired by him to design Cinderella's castle, they really look alike! But here, instead of Cinderella, were the Kings of Castile, who did not live badly, really. We only saw it on the outside, since being a backpackers, we didn't feel like paying the entrance fee, although they say it's worth it. Yes, we certainly have to return to Segovia :-p

We went down a hill in search of better views ... and although the Alcazar could not be seen at its best, we could see the Parral Monastery in the distance.

The bellies began to demand attention and as it is true that the Romans know how to build aqueducts, the Segovians cook piglet as na-die! Too bad, as we already told you, the only one we saw closely was in the window (damn budget low cost!). Although as we were traveling with “the Valerians” we threw the house out the window and instead of going to 100 montaditos, we went to a real XD restaurant (“The Baker"In case someone cheers up) where we ate a € 10 menu, what a treat, huh ?! It was also light-light: lasagna and lamb for me, spinach pie + zucchini and pork tenderloin for Rober.

With the belly (inexplicably) full and the time that was being thrown over us we had to leave some places in the city for an upcoming visit (such as the Barrio de San Lorenzo that we had been recommended) ...

... but we had to go out to the "Real site of San Ildefonso" better known as "La Granja". This municipality, which is located about 11 km from Segovia, preserves several interesting buildings such as the former Royal Glass Factory or the House of Infants (nowadays National Parador) although we were going to gossip the Royal Palace one of the residences of the Spanish royal family (which being Thursday afternoon was free!).

What to say? How much luxury! We were hallucinated the truth ... with one of the many tapestries of the palace we could travel for months, years, decades, lives (¿). The truth is that the building is beautiful, although if you do not like classic art or luxury (which is not yours, of course!) The visit can be a bit boring…. What are so many clocks and rooms? The best were the gardens… what a ride they had to stick around!

So far our day trip to Segovia. You have been? The truth is that it is one of the best day trips from Madrid, even if you come from where you come, walking around here is a pleasure. Do you know more things to see and do in Segovia in one day? Surely we have forgotten something 🙂

Where to park for free in Segovia?

First things first, so if you travel by car you may want to know some free parking in Segovia. If you travel on Sundays you will not have problems, because all the parking lots are free but if you visit the city during the week we saw (thanks internet!) That there were these: -Parking of San Marcos, under the Alcazar (about 2km from Plaza del Azoguejo) - Parking of the old artillery regiment (about 600 m from Plaza del Azoguejo) - Parking by the Pinarillo (about 600 m from Plaza del Azoguejo)

And what happens if I don't have a car, how to get to Segovia?

Well, if you travel from Madrid there are many trains that will leave you in Segovia in just 30 minutes. If you prefer to take a guided tour from Madrid, this tour looks very good.

Tourist Office

The first stop would have to be the tourist office of Plaza del Azoguejo. Here they will advise you on your visit and will leave you free brochures and maps to guide you well in the historic center. Although do not worry that the center is small and everything is very well signposted!

Where to eat in Segovia?

If you travel with a medium-generous budget we would tell you to try the specialties of Segovia: suckling pig and suckling pig.
If, as we are going on a low cost plan, you can choose from one of the many tourist menus (€ 9-15).
