Istria made it very clear to us that the beaches of Croatia are the best thing there is (our feet without booties disagree a little, but the feet have neither a brain nor a heart so they better shut up!). Well, the beaches are amazing but… what if we are going to see some island? It will be for islands, in Croatia there are thousands and thousands ... Hvar, Brac, Korcula ... but of course, not having much time we did not know how to organize ourselves. In the end we choose a3 different islands tour near Trogir, a very beautiful city that is next to Split.

Before starting our sailor day we went, in the company of Marijo, to take a look at the Roman town of Salona ... it deserves a separate article that will arrive, do not worry! For now we leave you with a photo to whet your appetite 🙂

Marijo also took us to discover the beautiful town of Trogir, just 30 minutes from Split, which is definitely worth it ... we will also talk about Trogir in another post, but today we are going to focus on the islands!

The three islands we visited were:

  1. Šolta

  2. Drvenik

  3. Čiovo

They are by no means the most tourist and well-known islands in Croatia and this is a very important point in favor: you will be able to find coves and beaches to be alone (at least in September!). We will tell you more about these little jewels:

ŠOLTA

The first stop of our seafaring day was the island of Šolta. Here we visit the picturesque town of Maslinica, formed by a couple of streets, rock houses and colorful windows, a port full of boats and a few beaches and coves with blue and transparent waters.

After taking a dip, we relaxed for a while like lizards in the sun and suddenly we began to hear some songs in Croatian in the distance: they were fishermen who were improvising a choir in akonoba, a typical Croatian tavern. We want to sit down and try a dish made with peka, a way of cooking so typical of the Dalmazia coast: apparently it is a kind of stew that is cooked by putting the casserole directly on the coals. You can prepare both meats and fish (I am dying to try the octopus with potatoes in white wine!) And usually costs about 70-90 kunas per person (€ 10-13).

DVRENIK

The truth is that we do not visit the island. Well, we just set foot in it to jump into the water: here is one of the most beautiful lagoons in the area, the so-called blue lagoon. We met a few tourist and sailing boats, so we cannot say that the lagoon was only for us ... but it is very large and you will not have problems to swim like a lonely little mermaid out there :-p It does not take many more explanations like this We leave you a couple of photos so you can see that paradise is not only found in the Caribbean or in Southeast Asia!

ČIOVO

The island of Čiovo was our last stop: here we ate at a local tavern where the chef delighted us with a grilled fish (drowned in oil according to the Hungarian girl who accompanied us on the tour) that we found very rich. We also tried the meat dish (it was grilled chicken breast) but we stayed with the fish ... you are warned! We also got to eat watermelon, very rich, and a cafelito to finish off. The beach where we left the ship was possibly not the prettiest on the island (in the afternoon it rose a little bora, the strong wind that sometimes shakes the coasts of Croatia, so the sea was quite moved). But as you always have to look at the positive side, we decided to take the time to hit a little nap, put ourselves like two little strawberries from Huelva and enjoy the small beach: it was just us!

USEFUL INFO

  • How much does this tour of the islands of Croatia cost? About € 26 per person.
  • How long does it last? The ship leaves at 09.00 from the port of Trogir and returns around 17.30.
  • Web: See all the tour information.
  • What does the tour include? It includes boat transportation (we went by speedboat and shared it with a couple of Hungarians and one of Germans) + breakfast (croissant + juice), + food (fish or meat to choose ... the fish is better :-p), drinks (water, juice, white wine). There is plenty of free time (an hour and a peak in Maslinica), an hour in the blue lagoon and an hour and a half in Dvrenik.
  • Can it be done for free? Of course: there are ferries that depart from Split to the islands on a daily basis although if you want to see it all in one day you may compensate for the tour since the schedules are not always good for combining the islands.
  • How long is the tour? About 8 hours
  • Is the tour worth it? We think so: € 28 is not much considering the few people we were, the fact that we visited 3 islands and that they included our food.
  • Are they the best islands in Croatia? We only visit these for time issues but we understand that Brac and Hvar are very worthwhile, yes, they are the most tourist in all of Croatia so if you do not like crowded places this may be a good alternative. We were delighted 🙂
