We never heard the name beforeBaan Kang Wat and that we had already been 3 times in Chiang Mai. But it is already known: it is one thing to visit a tourist site and another thing is to live there for a while. So this time, taking advantage of the fact that we stayed here for a while, we got to work, or what is the same, we started to dive through the net in search of Original sites and plans in Chiang Mai and ... bingo! So we found thisartist community a few kilometers from the center of Chiang Mai.

How to describe it? First of all it is a site green (which is always nice to be about Chiang Mai!): It is located next to a rice paddy, surrounded by tropical plants, full of pots, cacti and succulents. Come on, green, green, green. But above all it is a place where you can breathe creativity in abundance andhipsterism acute. From the first moment you know that it is one of those places that have personality.

The only bad thing is that it is tiny and you want more ... But what are you going to find in this "small town of artists"?

1. There are a couple of Craft shops, where they sell everything from notebooks to paintings, cutlery and ceramic plates, from postcards to hair accessories to seedlings and bowls. One more beautiful than the previous one.

2. There are some coffee shops where you can have a coffee (don't see the coffee culture of Chiang Mai!), relax and enjoy the atmosphere. We ate some death cakes in the “The old chiang mai cafe & espresso bar”, the owner told us that his sister prepares them. I smelled for the sister!

3. There are a couple of restaurants where to try some local specialties (80 bahts or so) and where to have entrepreneurial ideas that will petar (but finally not petan) with Moha, your Algerian-French friend known in Tokyo :-p

4. There are organic gardens, a pottery studio, nail art Galeries, a amphitheater outdoors, one ice cream shop and decorative details that will freak you out (at least they freaked us out), everything is so beautiful that it seems unreal. Oh and there are paper flags. I have a fetish with the paper flags almost as big as the windmills. Do not judge me.

By the way, every Sunday morning they make a organic market. We did not go but it can be a good time to visit it.

  • How to get? It is located about 5 km south west of downtown Chiang Mai
