Elegant but not boring, has personality to give and take: Hobart, the second oldest city in Australia and the largest and most important in Tasmania is like its island ... tiny but very interesting. In this article we will tell you 20 things to see and do in Hobart.

1. Take something in Salamanca Place, one of the most charming areas of the city, famous for its atmosphere and its sand-colored Georgian buildings. It has a British touch that we love and there are several places that offer interesting discounts (we saw one with pizza and beer for $ 10).

2. If you like to visit art museums do not miss the MONA (Museum of Old and New Art), which is well worth a visit ($ 28). Its founder defined it as the Disney version for adults and everything, around the museum, revolves around the themes "love, sex and death".

3. On Saturdays from 8.30 to 15.00 there is an unavoidable appointment: it is none other than the Salamanca Market, a market with more than 300 stalls that fills the city with life. Here you will find a lot of organic food (Tasmania is a paradise for realfooding) and a lot, a lot of atmosphere. We recommend you get up early as it is usually put on top!

4. Another famous market is the Farm Gate Market, not far from it is as big as that of Salamanca but it is interesting and full of colors. It takes place on Sundays in Bathurst Street.

5. Go up to Mount wellington (1271m) to enjoy the most amazing views over Hobart and its beautiful bay.

6. If something catches you away, don't worry, there are two alternatives: Mount nelson and the Rosny Hill Lookout.

7. We assume that, if you are in Hobart, you have decided to get to know other corners of Tasmania in depth. Peeeero, if you are only the capital for a few days, you are very interested in history and you do not have time for many excursions, we recommend yes or yes to approach the Tasman Peninsula and visit Porth Arthur, where there is a set of buildings that belonged to a prison of convicts from the British Isles. In fact, Tasmania was known as "island-jail". Here we tell you our route through this part of the island in our roadtrip.

8. Visit the Women's Factory, a prison that only housed convicts. Here you can delve into this curious and sad part of the history of Australia. If you don't have time to get close to Porth Artur, this site is a perfect alternative.

9. Give yourself a walk in the harbor, sit on a bench looking at the sea but do not do it empty-handed: before buying a portion of fish & chips or a foot in one of the stands that are nearby.

10. In Australia they know how to make good beer and Tasmania is no exception: if you are a beer-lover, come and try those ofCascade Brewery Company, which manufactures craft beers since 1832! Curiosity: it is the oldest brewery in all of Australia * _ *

Salamanca Market

11. An interesting neighborhood to take a walk to relive the past is Battery point, to the bark of Salamanca Square. Battery Point is full of casoplones (not for nothing it is one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in the city), of barecitos and charming places.

12. It is always a good time to celebrate something, but better to do it during happy hour or happy hour. In Hobart (yasss) there are a few and here you can see a few.

13. In Hobart, as in the rest of Australia, there is a deep-rooted coffee culture (these Australians drink so much coffee!), So coffee shops of all kinds are not lacking, from the most flirtatious to the most original. Our bet? The Machine Laudry Café, where while taking a great brunch you can do the XD laundry. More info.

14. If what you like most is to walk among trees and curious flowers, your perfect place is the Botanical Garden. It is located outside the city but can be reached after an entertaining walk of about 20-30 minutes.

15. The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery It is a great site for those who want to know more about the history of this "small" state of Australia. Entrance is free!

Hobart Harbor

16. From the end of June to mid-July, one of the great events of the city takes place: the Festival of the Voices, when toooodo in Hobart revolves around music. More info.

17. A highly recommended excursion (if you can spend the night there, much better) is the beautiful one bruny island. Once here do not miss one of the best viewpoints in all of Tasmania: The Neck. More info in the roadtrip article.

18. Another, even closer, excursion is to the pretty town of Richmond, where is the oldest and most famous bridge in all of Australia: it is beautiful and always full of ducks hehe.

19. On Fridays from 5.30pm to 7.30pm you have a schedule: Rektango. It is a music festival that varies from week to week (there are blues, rock n 'roll, reggae concerts). And great news, it's completely free. It takes place in the interior garden of the Salamanca Art Centre's (77 Salamanca Pl).

20. If as we dream of travel to Antarctica (and you also drive pasta) this interests you: from Hobart there is a flight that leaves at 08am and returns at 08pm after having flown to (and over) the White Continent * _ * The bad news comes now: the ticket costs about 2,000 $ approx (about € 1200) auch! More info.

20 + 1. Come back: Tasmania and Hobart, its capital, are a beautiful place, so returning is a great option.
