1. Excursion to the castles of Denmark

Visiting the castles of Kronborg, Frederiksborg and Fredensborg, located a short distance from the capital, is one of the best excursions in Copenhagen.
The Kronborg Castle, A World Heritage Site, is the most famous because Shakespeare used it as the setting for his work Hamlet. Built between 1574 and 1585 it was considered for a time the most important fortress in Europe, until it was transformed into a prison. In addition, its location in the beautiful city of Helsingør, the place in Denmark closest to Sweden, gives it a special charm.
During the visit inside the castle you can see several excellent tapestries, royal rooms, the ballroom and the banquet hall.
To get to Kronborg you can take a train at Copenhagen Central Station in the direction of Helsingør in a journey of about 45 minutes.
The Frederiksborg Castle, summer residence of the royal family until the mid-nineteenth century, stands out for its location on the banks of a lake and its beautiful baroque gardens. Inside you can visit the National History Museum, in addition to touring the royal rooms, an interior courtyard and a small church.
To get to Frederiksborg Castle you can take a train at the Central Station in the direction of Hillerød, in a journey of about 40 minutes.
Fredensborg Castle is an 18th-century baroque palace and residence of the royal family during spring and autumn and stands out for its location on the shore of a lake surrounded by nature and its wonderful gardens.
To get to the castle you can take a train at the Central Station and make a transfer at Snekkersten station, in a journey of 1 hour and 15 minutes.
In addition to these castles that are relatively close to the Danish capital, we recommend visiting the city, Amalienborg Palace and Rosenborg Castle, two of the most essential places to see in Copenhagen.
If you have little time it is interesting to take a bus tour with a guide in Spanish to learn more about the history of these incredible castles.
The entrance to the castles is included if you buy the Copenhagen Card.

2. Guided tour of Copenhagen

Several studies on Copenhagen say that this is the happiest city in the world. It is possible that it is an exaggeration, although when you find a city with so little pollution and so clean, with a very high standard of living and well-being, full of bike paths and healthy food, you start to think that it could really be a great truth.
The best way to enjoy the city and explore the historic center is on foot, starting with Stroget Street, the longest pedestrian street in Europe, to continue strolling through the center, while enjoying streets and canals surrounded by beautiful buildings and Colorful facades, terraced squares and places for a good beer, palaces and fairytale castles, an old amusement park, green spaces, to finish in front of The Little Mermaid, the most visited place in Denmark.
A little further from the center is the free city of Christiania that declares itself independent of Denmark and the European Union, as well as the spectacular viewpoint of the Church of San Salvador.
All these places can be visited on your own, although it may be interesting to book a guided tour in Spanish to learn more about the history and anecdotes of the city.

3. Roskilde, one of the best excursions in Copenhagen

Roskilde, a small Danish city located at the end of a fjord, is another of the best excursions in Copenhagen, with its two main tourist attractions such as the Cathedral and the Viking ship museum of Roskilde.
The Gothic-style Roskilde Cathedral was declared a World Heritage Site and is the largest cathedral to see in Denmark, where a large part of the royal family's tombs that range from the Middle Ages to the present day are located.
A little away from the center, surrounded by the natural environment of the fjord, is the Viking ship museum, where you can see five of the Viking ships refloated in 1960 after more than 1000 years passed under the waters of the fjord.
To get to Roskilde from Copenhagen you can take a train at the Central Station, several depart every hour, which will take you in half an hour to the city. Another good option to learn more about Roskilde's history is to book a guided tour in Spanish.
Transportation, the entrance to the cathedral museum and the ship museum are included if you have the Copenhagen Card.

4. Boat trip on the canals

The boat trip on the canals is one of the best experiences and one of the best tips if you're traveling to Copenhagen. This excursion will take you through several of the canals of the city, starting with the one in Nyhavn which is a real wonder, surrounded by the typical Danish houses and wooden boats docked at the banks, in addition to other channels, which we love as the one it surrounds the island of Slotsholmen and that of the Christianshavn neighborhood.
For this wonderful walk through the canals there are several types of boats and companies, which offer similar routes to see the most important and emblematic points of the city from another perspective. You can even rent small boats where you can be your own captain and choose the itinerary you like best.
We chose a one-hour boat tour leaving the port of Nyhavn, in which a guide who spoke English, Danish and Spanish was explaining curiosities and the history of many of the important places in the city.
There are other tours that allow you to go down at several piers such as those near La Sirenita or the Christianshavn area, this being an interesting option if you also want to use it as transportation to get around the city.
The boats are operational until 6 pm with a frequency of 15 minutes in summer.

5. Excursion to Malmö

Crossing the Öresund bridge, the longest train-road combined bridge in Europe and famous for going on a TV series, to get to Malmö, is one of the best excursions in Copenhagen.
This Swedish city has several places of interest such as the historic center Gamla Staden with Jakob Nilsgatan street, and Stortorget and Lilla torg squares as great protagonists. It is also worth approaching the neighborhood of Västra Hammen, one of the most modern in the city, which highlights the Turning Torso skyscraper of Santiago Calatrava.
All these points of interest, adding the parks, museums, castles, sculptures, modern premises, next to the quiet and liberal atmosphere, make Malmö a perfect city to spend a day from Copenhagen, since it is only 40 minutes by train from Copenhagen Central Station.
Another cheaper but slower option is the bus where you can choose between several companies such as Flixbus, Swebus or Nettbus.
