Fishing Museum in Palamós in Bajo Ampurdán in Costa Brava

Surely there will be some other similar museum on other coasts, but the truth is that until you reach Palamos I had not visited a Fishing museum like the one you find in this town of the Costa Brava Well-earned international prestige, which has become the first museum of these characteristics in the Mediterranean.

The little ones have always attracted my attention fishing ports where the colorful coastal fishing boats are crowded together, which is increasingly difficult to see. But in Palamos There is still a fishing port with dozens of boats that every afternoon, around 17 hours return to the port with the fruit of their fishing to sell it in the fish market.

At present, in Palamós, 32 trawlers and another 30 of minor arts continue fishing,

Right next to the fish market of the mentioned port is the Fishing Museum of Palamós, which was inaugurated in 2002, and already receives about 26,000 visitors a year.

In you museum visit The first thing you will see is an introduction video of about 10 minutes, in which the background sound stands out with the atmosphere of the traditional auction that every working day is still carried out in the adjoining market of the port.

During your tour of the museum, where information panels abound, you learn that only 20 percent of the fish consumed in Spain comes from the Mediterranean coast.

The central element of the museum is a traditional fishing boat with sail that is located with its axis. Around the boat, on two floors, you will see numerous objects, tools and crafts traditionally used by fishermen in the area.

Next to the museum, in the same port, there are two fishing boats, one for trawling and one for encirclement, which constitute its floating heritage.

During the visit you will also know that about 20 different species are caught in the Mediterranean Sea, from sardines to prawns, among which are the very famous ones of Palamós.

Specifically, the Palamós prawns they are concentrated in chasms about 800 meters deep that are very close to this coastal area.
